João Concha is a published illustrator born in Évora, Portugal (1980). At 18 he moved to Lisbon to study architecture, meteorology and hat-design. He attended the Illustration Program in CITEN - Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (2005/2006) as well as short courses in Ar.Co - Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual.
He has been illustrating books, fanzines, magazines, newspapers and also works in partnership with theatre companies and several cultural projects, taking part in numerous solo / group exhibitions. He created INÚTIL, an illustration and poetry magazine, and currently runs the small publishing house 'não (edições)'.
In his drawings he explores the gesture, the imperfection and even the 'mistake' through different media: charcoal, graphic pen and markers are some of his favorites. "A collage a day" (one at least!) could be his motto.
